All toilet effluent goes into the septic tank. The bacterial organisms in the tank cannot breakdown such items as sanitary products, condoms, foreign objects, disinfectants and deodorisers. It is recommended that a well-maintained septic tank should be cleaned out every 4-5 years before the sludge level in the tank rises and is discharged into the soakage/leach drains, causing costly blockages at the toilet, at the tank or in the trenches from the tank.
